Dr Jack Shieh O.B.E., Director of Vietnamese Mental Health Service:
Hi I’m Jack Shieh, I’m the Director of Vietnamese Mental Health Service.
Question card:
What is the benefit of having census data?
Dr Jack Shieh O.B.E., Director of Vietnamese Mental Health Service:
The census data to provide accurate number of each national identity living in the area would help local authority to provide service, as well as helping community organisations in their funding application, so that services can be provided to a specific community.
Question card:
Why is it important that your national identity and religious belief is accurately represented?
Dr Jack Shieh O.B.E., Director of Vietnamese Mental Health Service:
With the funding then we can provide language and culturally appropriate mental health support to our community. Because mental health is a huge stigma in our community.
Question card:
What language support is available if English isn’t your first language?
Dr Jack Shieh O.B.E., Director of Vietnamese Mental Health Service:
The ONS can provide support over the phone or online and getting an interpreter.
Question card:
How can you accurately represent your national and religious identity in the census?
Dr Jack Shieh O.B.E., Director of Vietnamese Mental Health Service:
People can tick the box marked “Other” and then type in their national identity. For example, if you’re Vietnamese then put in “Vietnamese”.
